I quit smoking almost 6 months ago, and in that time I have gained over 20lbs. I didn’t focus on trying to not gain weight when I quit because I just wanted to focus on quitting smoking and getting past all the psychological issues that go along with it; the weight I could deal with later.

Well, the weight is now a huge issue (pun intended). I’ve been feeling really self-conscious about it and yesterday while I was walking around work, I could feel the extra weight on me jiggling and I was mortified.

Over the past 10 years I have struggled with weight issues that I never had to deal with before. Where they came from, I’m not sure. It could have been all my attempts at quitting smoking and the miscarriage and feeling too comfortable in my relationship, who knows. The thing is that I remember being thin and happy with my body.

I Really Was A Size 7

The bad part about that is that when I was thin and happy with my body I smoked, a lot, and drank coffee rather than eat food. I didn’t eat much back then and food wasn’t on my mind all. the. time.

This is where I begin to struggle with the smoking issue; knowing that I could be thin again if I just went back to smoking. I decided that wasn’t going to work this time.

So last night as I was drinking my cream soda (I know, bad huh?) I decided that today I would start eating healthier and start exercising.

This body needs to go away:

Good for you Nancy I am currently battling the bulge(s). I lost 10lbs since beginning Dec but just put a couple back on over the half term. I love my food too much so I’m trying to use the Wii Fit and walk as often as I can instead of taking the car.

Congratulations Nancy on quitting smoking and also working to eating healthier. I’ve yo-yo’d back & forth for years. First it was getting off the baby weight (which lasted for years), but after I lost the weight(35 - 40 lbs.) there are periods when some of it will go back.

So over the past 6-8 years, I’ve been dealing with 20, 1bs & now 10, which is the hardest to keep off. I know that I’m an emotional eater, and especially when it’s cooler out, while dealing with unemployment.

I think it’s brave of you to put yourself out here like this. I’m too chicken (hiding behind an appropriate avatar) to show my real identity.

This new year is bringing lots of changes for you — including a new blogging format. Good for you. :)

Oh yeah! A belated Happy New Year! :D

    Suzy,
Thank you! Sorry to take so long to reply to you. I went and got myself addicted to Facebook and forgot all about my blog, lol. I meant to do weekly updates here, but things just have not worked out that way yet. Anyway, I’ll be updating soon. Thanks for stopping by, it’s good to hear from you, and a happy belated New Year to you as well. :)
